Restaurant of the Week- Fifteen: CornwallLast weekend we returned from a great week away in Cornwall with a bunch of friends. On one morning during our time away we decided to drive to the north coast and splash out on a slap up brekkie at Jamie Oliver's 'Fifteen: Cornwall' restaurant.
It was well worth getting up a little earlier and travelling with rumbling tummies. The restaurant was fab and the food amazing.. we all tucked into hearty breakfast sandwiches, all made from locally produced food. It was always going to be a bit pricey, but the four of us spent just under £50 for as much food as we'd need till tea, fantastic sea views (you feel like your sat over the sea) plus great coffee and the most amazing smoothies.. yum!
We went after on a recommendtion (thanks to Mark & Tim) and if you're ever in the area early morning (8:30 - 9:30) then I would also heartily suggest a visit. They sit breakfast on a first come first served basis, but on a wet morning out of season you should have no problem getting a table.
Check out the official site, and have a look at my piccies below.

Recipe of the Week - VedgereeDemuths is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Bath. This recipe is taken from their excellent and highly recommended book ‘Green World Cookbook’ (available from their web site). Vedgeree - with Poppadoms and Tomato and Papaya Chutney
(See Jim’s low-fat-‘n’-fishy version at the end J ) Kedgeree is a colonial adaptation of the Indian dish khichhari, made with rice and lentils and served with khuri, a sour milk sauce, poppadoms and chutney. This is a scrumptious vegetarian version that has the bonus of not stinking the kitchen with fish smells. Serves 4
275g basmati rice
3 eggs, hardboiled and chopped
25g butter
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tsp curry powder
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp chilli powder
150g oyster mushrooms, shredded
200g frozen organic peas
150g smoked cheese, diced
lots of fresh parsley, chopped
salt and fresh black pepper
25g flaked almonds, toasted
Tomato and Papaya Chutney
3cm piece root ginger
2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 red chilli, finely sliced
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tsp punch puran
700g tomatoes, cored and chopped
50g dried apricots, chopped
100g soft brown sugar
100ml wine vinegar
¼ tsp salt
½ small papaya
Making Vedgeree involves a number of different tasks; cooking the rice, hard boiling the eggs, frying the onions and toasting the almonds before everything is mixed together.
Measure the rice into a measuring jug as you’ll need 1 part water to 1 part rice. Rinse the rice until the water runs clear and place in a medium saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Add the measured water; which should just cover the rice. Cover and bring to the boil, then turn down the heat and simmer until all the water is absorbed - should take about 5 minutes. Take off the heat and leave to stand covered for a further 5 minutes.
Fry the onion in the butter until translucent but not browned, add the garlic and spices and stir-fry. Add the oyster mushrooms and cook for 5 minutes. Then add the peas and cook until tender.
Mix in the cooked rice, diced smoked cheese, chopped boiled eggs and parsley. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Tomato and Papaya Chutney
Peel and chop the ginger and whiz this, together with the garlic and chilli, in a mini food processor, to a chunky paste. Heat the sunflower oil in a large saucepan, add the ginger mix and the punch puran and stir-fry until fragrant.
Add the tomatoes, apricots, sugar, vinegar and salt, stir and simmer for 30 minutes until it has reduced to a thick chutney consistency. Peel and chop the papaya, add this to the mixture and simmer for 5 minutes. Leave to cool.
To serve
Serve the Vedgeree hot, sprinkled with toasted almonds and accompanied by poppadoms and Tomato and Papaya Chutney.
Jim’s low-fat alternative - WITH fish!
Ditch the Tomato and Papaya Chutney in favour of a tablespoon of your favourite brand of mango chutney. Also drop the almonds and replace the butter and cheese with fry-light and a lovely fresh 200g piece of skinless cod or other chunky white fish (steamed in foil in the oven for 15-ish minutes (gas mark 5). Total weight watcher points can be anything between 8 and 12 points depending on how much fish, rice, eggs and peas etc. you use. Try it and enjoy! Jim's Special Cottage PieHmmm ... these pictures don't do it justice!
Actually - it looks nasty..
What a waste of cyber-space.

The Experiment - ConclusionFinally its over. Neil and I couldn't take anymore... it was REALLY starting to smell quite badly. So, the experiment has ended and the subject is in the bin.
The pics below are all the evidence we need to prove that this experiment was just plain wrong from the start.
Conclusion: Becks is a nut.
What worries us now is, what's next?

Becky's Latest Science ExperimentPlease don't ask why, but Becks has a wierd habit of conducting science experiments based on things going off or mouldy. The latest addition to this trend is the satsuma test. If you must, take a look a the picture below.. this is after 1 week..

What's Wrong with this Picture? If you've watched the film 'Falling Down' you'll know exactly what I mean. Regardless though, you should have seen the look of disappointment on her face when I took it out of the box...
